Countdown begins for Vokkaliga sangha fight

The countdown has begun for the high-voltage election for Vokkaliga sangha, which has been equated to any major polls in the state. With over 5.25 electorate this high voltage election has 221 candidates in the fray of which 141 are from Bangalore alone!Already, candidates have are in the last leg of campaigning to become directors of the prestigious one of the richest bodies – Vokkaliga sangha. Already enticement and inducement had begun to ensure voters vote in their favour.The inducement for voters ranges from Rs. 200 to Rs. 5000 to garner the votes.

Some candidates have gone a step ahead and provided Rs. 300 per vote along with the photo of Dharmasthala diety Sri Manjunatha Swamy. Its like taking a promise that they get vote.The cadidature ranges from farmer leaders to social activists to doctors to profeasionals to professors to politicians.  The candidatire itself is colourful and promising.

 The voting begins from 7 am and will go on till 5 pm.  Each of the voter will get indelible ink mark on their left hand little finger.A total of 1049 polling stations have been established including 389 in the city.The counting has been scheduled on December 15 at the palace grounds.

The Bengaluru electorate will choose 15 directorates. A total of 35 directors will be elected from 11 districts. They inturn elect president, vice president, treasurer and secretary. 15 directors will be elected by voters from Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Ramanagar and Krishnagiri. 4 from Mandya,3 each from Mysuru and Kolar-Chikkaballapur, 2 from Tumakuru, 1 each from Chitradurga, Dakshina Kannada – Udupi, Kodagu, Shivamogga, Uttara Kannada and Chikmagalur. Some candidates have formed syndicate while a few are contesting as independent candidates.
