Bengaluru, Jan 26: Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar today said the Indian Constitution is as sacred to Indians as Bhagawad Gita is for Hindus, Bible is for Christians and Quran is for Muslims.
Speaking at the Constitution Awareness Jatha at Anekal, he said, “The Constitution authored by Dr B R Ambedkar is a sacred document for the Indians and it can’t be allowed to be tampered with by any forces. The Constitution is a protection we have for democracy. Constitution is a document which has erased evils of our society and created oneness as Indians.”
“Congress is the only party which represents and stands for all sections of the society. The five guarantees provided by the Congress party belongs to all sections of the society. Our party functions on the ‘equal share for all, equal life for all’ philosophy.
“Prime Minsiter Narendra Modi is criticising our guarantees on one hand but on the other hand he is copying our programmes. Dr B R Ambedkar once said ‘Don’t get sold even if you can’t fight’. It essentially means that one should never compromise on one’s ideals,” he said.
“Today is also a day when freedom fighter Sangolli Rayanna was executed. Constitution is the cornerstone of Rama Rajya. The Constitution Awareness Jatha will reach every village,” he said, calling upon party workers to create awareness about the importance of Constitution and contribution of Congress party to social security.
“God doesn’t give boon or curse, he only gives opportunities. We have to make use of those opportunities. Like roots are important for the tree, trust is important for people. We have to try to help people as much as we can,” he said.
