Cong BJP lock horns over padayatra, Congress leaders brave arrests

Bengaluru, Jan. 7: Amidst rising Corona crisis in the state Congress and BJP have locked horns over padayatra demanding implementation of the Mekedatu project.
Congress’s padayatra to Mekedatu project would begin on Jan 9 and necessary preparations are on.
KPCC President D. K. Shivakumar alleged that BJP is leaving no stones unturned to stall padayatra. “The Home Minister Araga Jnanendra should take rebirth to stall this padayatra,” Mr. Shivakumar said.
Reacting to Mr. Araga Jnanendra’s warning to initiate legal action, Shivakumar stated “I am telling you, let them arrest anyone. Let them even arrest me or Siddaramaiah. We respect Covid rules. What government is doing when there is such a Covid situation they have allowed oath taking ceremony in Vidhana Soudha with the crowds flouting all Covid norms,” he said.

“What Home Minister is doing? Why he has not booked cases against all these persons in Vidhana Soudha? Is this not meeting? The oath taking ceremony of MLC’s should have taken place inside assembly and only MLA’s should have been invited. What game is this? Is Home Minister threatening us? We are not scared for such hollow threats. I am ready to go to jail,” he said angrily.
“We are also in politics for the last 4 decades. We are fighting for water for the people of our state. On Jan 9, the inauguration day of Mekedatu padayatra, let them (government) stop and arrest us. We will show what we can do later,” he challenged.
Siddaramaiah, the Opposition leader stated we dont need any consent for padayatrathat when we are not violating any law. Let them take action if any law is violated. they won’t take consent to carryout.
Earlier, Mr. Jnanendra speaking to reporters, Covid guidelines apply to all. The Congress leaders must rethink about the Mekedatu padayatra and postpone it, he added.
The cases are increasing at an alarming rate, especially in Bengaluru. “Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah are senior leaders and understand the concern of the government,” he appealed.
