BESCOM issues guidelines for Gowri Ganesha Festival organizers

Safety guidelines to be followed during setting up Pandal and Ganapati idol immersion

Bengaluru, Sep 4: BESCOM has instructed Ganesh Chaturthi festival organizers to contact the relevant sub-divisional officers to secure temporary electricity connections for the festival.

“Sub-divisional authorities have been directed to provide immediate electricity connections by the established norms, ensuring prompt coordination with local authority officials,” stated the BESCOM guideline.

“While celebrating the festival, the public must also prioritize safety. BESCOM will assist with the lighting system for the Ganesh festival. It is crucial to adhere to safety measures during the installation and dismantling of the idol at public events to prevent any electrical accidents,” BESCOM Managing Director Mahantesh Bilagi said.

Safety Measures
• When setting up pandals, serial lights, and other decorations for the Ganesh festival, exercise caution with electrical wires.

• Ensure that the wiring for serial lights is adequately insulated.

• Avoid contact with electric poles when installing serial lights.

• Do not attach shamiyanas, tents, or other items to electrical wires, poles, or transformer stations.

• Be mindful of overhead power lines during the Ganesh procession. Do not attempt to lift power lines. Notify Sub-Divisional Officers of the procession route in advance so they can provide necessary assistance.
• Report any live wires or electrical sparks immediately by calling the 1912 helpline.

• Mark “Danger Zones”, where electrical equipment is set up for the Ganesh pandal installation.

Temporary Power connection for Ganesha Chaturthi Pandal

When applying for a temporary power connection for a Ganesha Pandal, you must obtain a No Objection Letter from all relevant authorities, including BBMP, BDA, the Grama Panchayat, and the local police station.

After securing the No Objection Certificate from the relevant authorities, the Assistant Executive Engineer or Assistant Engineers will visit the site of the Ganesha Chaturthi installation to conduct an inspection. Only then will they grant permission for the Ganesha Chaturthi organizers to proceed.

Once you have obtained the wiring completion report from a registered electrical contractor, which confirms the safety of the wiring, installation of the MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker), and EIA (Earthing Inspection and Approval), the relevant authorities will then visit the Ganesha Chaturthi installation site to provide the connection to the organizers.

After the temporary electricity connection is provided, the meter must be returned, and the final reading must be recorded once the specified period has ended.
