Bengaluru, July 6: “Healthy citizens are the foundation of a strong, healthy nation. If we want to make the country self-reliant, innovative and a leader in global leadership, we must adopt the mantra of ‘Healthy India – Strong India’,” said Thaawarchand Gehlot, Governor.
He was speaking after participating in the “Doctors’ Conference” organized by Vishwa Hindu Parishad under Arogya Sankalpa. “India’s medical tradition is thousands of years old. Great sages like Charaka, Sushruta and Dhanvantari looked at medicine from both spiritual and scientific perspectives. Today we have multi-dimensional systems like Ayurveda, Yoga, Siddha, Unani, Homeopathy and Allopathy, which together embody the concept of “holistic healthcare”, he said.
“Today we need to move forward in the field of medical technology, GPS-based diagnostics, telemedicine, electronic health records and HSBC. There should be innovation in medical research. Doctors should think from a scientific perspective. Only then will we be able to fight the threats of global diseases like cancer, heart disease, depression and antibiotics,” he opined.
“In today’s era where global health crisis, lifestyle diseases and mental stress have troubled the society, “Arogya Sankalpa” is emerging as a ray of hope. “Arogya Sankalpa” is a collective movement, a direction, an idea and a resolve that we should be healthy, keep our family healthy and help keep our community healthy. This initiative is a positive step towards balancing physical, mental, social and spiritual health by adopting the concept of holistic health,” he said.
“Arogya Sankalpa” is a positive effort to provide solutions by integrating Allopathy, Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy and Homeopathy. “Arogya Sankalpa” is doing a commendable job in taking people on the path of self-reliant health through public awareness, holistic medical system, youth participation, addiction prevention, mental health and maternal and child health and regular yoga training and meditation sessions. Due to this, positive results are being achieved. This platform is doing an important job of bringing together scholars, policymakers and social workers from different systems of medicine to reflect on the progress of healthcare services and to embody the concept of a healthy India for the coming generations,” he said.
“Swami Vivekananda had said, “Service is religion”. This sentiment is clearly visible in medical service. During the pandemic, we have seen doctors putting their families, their own safety and comfort above their duty as doctors. The idea of “Vaidyo Narayano Hari” says that while serving patients, doctors act like God himself. They work to save lives. Ayurveda and Homeopathy are still seen as ‘alternative medicine’. These are our ancient heritage which need to be integrated with modern research,” he said.
“There has been significant progress in our healthcare system. But there are many challenges. Policymakers need to formulate policies that ensure that healthcare services reach the last person. Both quality and compassion should be included in the education and training of doctors and an ethical, sensitive medical culture should be created. Ethics and sensitivity should be given priority in the medical system. Doctors should make rural India the center of your service. You can present the Indian medical model on the global stage by combining Ayurveda, Yoga and modern medicine. I especially appreciate the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, which is playing an active role in the fields related to health, education and social security, in addition to religious activities,” he said.
“In 2047, we will celebrate 100 years of independence, then our India should be a healthy India, a self-reliant India and a prosperous India. The role of all of you is very important in this. The purpose of this conference is that we all together resolve to make India a “healthy nation, a capable nation”.
K. Sri Sthanumalayan, N. Sri Thippeswamy, Dr. Sri Hemanth and other dignitaries were present at the event.
