Action against misuse of mosque development funds: Zameer Ahmed Khan warns

Haveri, Sep. 4:
Minister for Minority Welfare and Wakf, Zameer Ahmed Khan, has warned that strict action will be taken against those who misuse funds allocated for mosque development and community welfare.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Wakf Adalat for Haveri-Gadag districts here on Tuesday, Khan said there have been complaints of misuse of funds provided by the Wakf Board and the Minority Welfare Department for the development of mosques, maintenance of burial grounds, and community welfare. Additionally, there are reports of bribery being taken in the name of providing these funds, which will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

“If anyone demands a bribe, first file a complaint at the police station and then bring it to my attention. I will personally ensure that the guilty are jailed. Action will be taken against anyone involved, without any hesitation,” he warned.

The minister said it is everyone’s duty to protect Wakf properties, considering it a divine responsibility. The Wakf Board has planned to construct women’s colleges in fifteen districts.

He extended heartfelt congratulations to MLC Abdul Jabbar and Wakf Board Chairman Anwar Basha for their keen interest and efforts in this regard.

Zameer Ahmed Khan criticized the central government’s move to amend the Wakf Act, stating that it is driven by malintent. “Wakf properties do not belong to the government; they belong to the community. We strongly oppose any amendments to the Act,” he declared.

On this occasion, checks worth Rs 8.50 crores were distributed for the development of 32 mosques in Haveri-Gadag districts.

The event was attended by Wakf Board Chairman Anwar Basha, MLC Abdul Jabbar, former MP I.G. Sanadi, former MLA Ajjam Peer Khadri, Yasir Patan, Faiz Ibrahim, and Siraj.
