Bangalore June 2: Energy Minister K. J. George will inaugurate the solar-powered integrated second-life battery EV charging center near Kempegowda International Airport (KIAL) on June 02. This facility marks a significant milestone in Karnataka’s efforts to enhance its electric vehicle infrastructure, which already leads the nation with the highest number of public charging stations.
The expansive EV charging hub, a collaborative effort between BESCOM, the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ), Bosch, and the people of Karnataka, will have the capacity to charge 23 vehicles simultaneously. This state-of-the-art facility is part of our ongoing efforts to enhance our electric vehicle infrastructure and support the growing demand for sustainable transportation solutions.
The BIAL EV Hub, a pioneering initiative, is India’s first commercial application center for second-life battery systems. This impressive charging facility, equipped with a 45 kW solar power system and boasting a 100 kWh second-life battery storage capacity, is a testament to India’s commitment to sustainable energy. It features 23 charging points, comprising 18 fast charging stations and five slow charging stations, designed to meet the needs of electric vehicle users efficiently.
Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM), the key agency overseeing EV charging infrastructure in Karnataka, has played a crucial role in the recent surge in electric vehicle adoption. As the nodal body responsible for expanding and managing the state’s EV charging network, BESCOM’s efforts to enhance accessibility and infrastructure have driven electric vehicle uptake.
The inauguration event will feature the presence of key officials, including Gaurav Gupta, Additional Secretary of the Department of Energy; Pankaj Kumar Pandey, Managing Director of KPCL; Dr. N Shivashankar, Managing Director of BESCOM; along with other distinguished attendees.
