Bengaluru, May 13: Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar announced today that he will conduct frequent random inspections of white topping road projects throughout Bengaluru to ensure construction quality standards are maintained.
“I won’t limit my inspections to locations suggested by officials,” Shivakumar told reporters after visiting several white topping sites across the city.
“I’ll be making unannounced visits to random locations. Our goal is to ensure these white-topped roads remain durable for at least 30 years. So far, the construction quality I’ve observed meets our standards.”
When questioned about his previous allegations regarding waste management contractors operating like a “mafia,” Shivakumar explained that the court has lifted its stay on the solid waste management tendering process for Bengaluru, providing a four-month window to issue new tenders.
“We have evidence of previous irregularities in the tendering process. Moving forward, we’re committed to implementing a transparent system for both the tender process and overall governance. While improvements won’t happen overnight, we expect to see gradual positive changes.”
Addressing concerns about flooding issues, the Deputy Chief Minister assured that preparations for the upcoming monsoon season are underway, stating, “We’ve taken necessary precautionary measures, and our officials remain vigilant.”
