APS College of Engineering Secures 2.31 Crore Grant for Humanoid Surveillance Research

Bangalore, Oct. 17: APS College of Engineering, a prestigious institution under the APS Education Trust, is proud to announce the receipt of a ₹2.31 crore research grant for the development of a humanoid robot designed for surveillance and situational awareness. As the Trust enters its 90th year, it continues to uphold its legacy of delivering quality education, spanning from Kindergarten to Post-Graduation. APS College of Engineering, one of the 15 wings of the Trust, is celebrating 30 years of academic excellence.

This groundbreaking research will be carried out in the state-of-the-art labs recently inaugurated at the college’s sprawling, eco-friendly 100-acre campus in Somanahalli, Bangalore. Known for its stellar placement record and innovative academic environment, APS College has produced over 15,000 engineers who now hold influential positions globally. The institution thrives under the leadership of President CA Vishnu Bharath, General Secretary A. Prakash, Prof. S.C. Sharma, Chairman of APSCE and Vice-President of APS Trust, and Principal Dr. D.G. Anand. Their dedication has made the college a beacon of technological advancement and research. In March 2024, the inauguration of these cutting-edge labs was presided over by Dr. Binay Kumar Das, Chairman of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). During the event, Dr. Das opened the Robotics Lab and posed a visionary challenge: “Why not build robots for the battlefield to save the precious lives of soldiers?” His vision has now laid the foundation for the newly sanctioned research initiative. These labs established is preparing students ready for AI. APS has a 3D printing lab equipped with 2.5cr equipment and robotics lab has already established robots for training students.

The college has been awarded the prestigious CARS (Collaborative Advanced Robotics Systems) project in collaboration with DRDO and the Instruments Research & Development Establishment (IRDE), Dehradun. The project, titled “Advanced Humanoid Robot for Surveillance and Situational Awareness”, aims to develop humanoid robots with cutting-edge capabilities to assist in critical defence operations, such as surveillance, threat detection, and battlefield support. Professors Mr.Hari Bojan, Dr. Ravi Kumar R and Dr. Satyabodh formulated the proposal and will lead this prestigious project.

With this initiative, APS College of Engineering is set to make significant contributions to defense technology, particularly in robotics and artificial intelligence. The collaboration with DRDO marks a new chapter in the college’s mission to innovate and serve the nation.
