Politics of livelihood has won against politics of emotion: DCM

Bengaluru, June 04: KPCC President and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar today said that results have clearly demonstrated that the politics of livelihood has won against the politics of emotion in the country.

Speaking to reporters at his Sadashivanagar residence, he said, “As a President of KPCC, I accept the verdict of the people both in the state and the country. The BJP was saying that they will win more than 400 seats, but they have fallen way short of that. The results have clearly shown that there is no Modi wave or Ram Mandir wave even in North India. The BJP has lost even in Ayodhya.”

“Results have made it clear that the popularity of Modi has come down drastically. It has come down even in the Hindi belt. BJP has to admit that it hasn’t got majority. The BJP which had won 303 seats last year has fallen to 243 seats. It is now dependent on other parties,” he said.

“Our tally has gone up from 1 to 9 in the State. We were expecting 14 seats. I congratulate Dr Manjunath on his victory in Bengaluru Rural constituency. It is an individual victory rather than a party’s victory, but we had not expected such a big margin in Bengaluru Rural. My brother had done good work and there was no anti-incumbency. People have voted for Dr Manjunath to give a chance to him,” he said.

“We can’t question the intelligence of the voters, we accept the verdict. We were expecting many more seats in the State. We thought the guarantees would help us. We will deliberate on the results and try to find why voters haven’t supported as we expected,” he added.

Congress-mukth Bharath is impossible
“The Congress party has crossed 100 seats after a gap of 10 years and the people have reposed faith in the party once again. The revival is due to the tireless efforts of our leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, who took out Bharat Jodo yatra. Priayanka Gandhi has also contributed significantly for the revival. The performance of the Congress party in the Old Mysuru Region has fallen compared to the Assembly elections, but that has been a trend for a long time. This was the case when S M Krishna was the Chief minister. Looks like it is the political nature of the State,” he added.

“People of Kalyana Karnataka have blessed with many seats and we are thankful for that. We were expecting a lead of 60,000 votes in my constituency but we have got a lead of only 26,000. I have some doubts about certain things but I accept the verdict. Mansoor Ali Khan lost his election in the last minute. We will try to correct our mistakes,” he said.

Asked if the guarantee schemes failed to pay off, he said, “It is difficult to say that. We were expecting 14 seats but we did not get expected results from Kitturu Karnataka and Bengaluru.”

Replying to a query on exit polls, he said, “I have said that I do not believe in exit polls. I had said that we would win double digit seats but we missed narrowly.”

Asked about lack of majority for BJP in the centre, he said, “BJP has failed to get majority and they have to accept the verdict. People have rejected their strategy of breaking parties in Maharashtra. People have also rejected politics of emotion. Our leaders are holding meetings, anything can happen in Indian politics.”

Asked if Kumaraswamy’s mission against DK brothers has succeeded, he said, “It may have succeeded. This victory is Dr Manjunath’s victory and not party’s victory.”

Asked if Party went wrong in selection of candidates, he said, “We had good candidates. All party workers worked hard. I won’t blame any party workers, I respect the verdict of the people.”
