Kharge fumes at beneficiaries deserting Congress party

NEW DELHI, Feb 17: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge today lashed out at all those party leaders who deserted the party after getting everything, saying this was just an act of cowardice.

In a video message to the workers convention held in Mumbai on Friday, Kharge disclosed that he recently asked the Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Speaker’s tea party as to why his party was forcing people to join it (the BJP). To this, Kharge said, Modi told him that they come on their own.

The Congress president said, other parties will keep on trying, but it is the matter of principle, which should be followed. He said, it is the party workers who give their everything to make the leaders. And if after getting everything from the party some leaders desert it, it is only an act of cowardice, without mentioning any names.

Kharge referred to yesterday’s Supreme Court decision holding the Electoral Bonds as unconstitutional. He said, this was the most opaque process of funding. He said the BJP had pocketed most of the funds. He said, there was no ideological commitment of the donors, as it was only for the quid pro quo that companies donated to the BJP as it favoured them in return.

Kharge said the Supreme Court’s decision will lead to transparency. He said, it needed to be seen whether Modi will implement the SC decision or will resort to arm twisting.

Referring to the commitment made by the Congress party on legal guarantee for the MSP for various crops, he said, it was done after due consultation with the financial and economic experts. He said, Congress party promises only those things, which it knows can be implemented.

Criticising the Prime Minister Modi for lying all these years, Kharge warned that if Modi got elected once again, it would be the end of democracy in the country. He said, democracy and the constitution will be destroyed. He said, once the constitution is destroyed, all the rights people got will be denied to them.

In a special praise for Mumbai, he pointed out, it was here where the Congress was founded. Besides, he said, all great movements regarding the freedom struggle or social justice started from this place only. He said, Mumbai holds a special place for the Congress and a victory from here for the party will always hold special significance.
