PRR in new form as Economic Corridor
Bengaluru, Feb. 19:
The much-awaited and ambitious Peripheral Ring Road (PRR) aimed at easing congestion and seamless traffic movement between Hosur road and Tumakur road would be renamed Economic Corridor, answered deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar.
Replying to a query raised by Bidar MLA Shailendra Beldale on Tuesday Mr. Shivakumar said that the project conceived about 15 years ago was lying in cold storage for several reasons due to various hurdles, mostly land acquisition.
With the NICE road and Economic Corridor completion it creates a circumnavigation around the Outer Ring Road (ORR). The project required about 2,596 acres of land of which only 220 acres of government land is available. Which means, the government would . have to acquire huge land bank for commissioning of the project, he added.
Already, the project has been tendered. The technical and financial evaluation of the project and the contractor will be done by the end of this month, he said and added that the government has planned a move to benefit land losing farmers.
The project is estimated to cost around Rs. 24,000 cores. Meanwhile, the government is contemplating on the financial resources required for the execution of the project, said Mr. Shivakumar.
Mr. Beldale also felt that with the completion of the project the Bengaluru citizens would benefit.
