Claims deprived of jobs and other benefits in government sector
Bengaluru, Jan. 27: Now it is the turn of Balija community to seek for 2A category reservation. Large number of people from the community gathered at the freedom park on Friday to send the message loud and clear to the government.
The state government must consider providing 2A category reservation without losing much time, demanded senior congress leader and former minister M R Seetharam.
Addressing a mega Balija convention held at the Freedom Park Seetharam said that the total population of Balija community is 40 lakhs and has all the criteria to be brought under 2A category.
“In 2011, Balija community was given reservations in education sector. We demand that we be provided reservation under 2A so that the community will get other benefits including employment,” said Seetharam.
Balija community was considered as backward community since 1953 until 1994. In 1994, the Balija community was shifted out of 2A and categorized under 3B. As a result the community did not get its due in government jobs since, he rued.
Two senior Congress leaders, Gandhinagar MLA Dinesh Gundu Rao and former Assembly Speaker Ramesh Kumar spoke in favour of providing them 2A category.
Chairman of M. S. Ramaiah group of Institutions M.R.Jayaram presided over the convention.
Speaking to reporters after the convention, Seetharam said he has convened a meeting of senior leaders of Balija community to chalk out future Course of action to get the 2A reservation.
