Bengaluru, May 18: Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar has raised questions over the State government’s urgency to enforce the anti-conversion law via an ordinance, conveniently bypassing the due process of debate and discussion in the assembly and the council.
“What is the great hurry to bring an anti-conversion law via ordinance, avoiding debate in the assembly and the council,” he questioned.
Highlighting how the law fails to address more pressing issues at hand, he questioned, “Will it create jobs?”
Further emphasising how the State government is not focusing on the people’s welfare and the development of the region, he said that the law would not bring back the lives of those who died due to the want of oxygen in Covid.
He asked whether the law would be “used as a ploy to persecute minorities on fake charges?” highlighting the BJP’s misplaced priorities in times when concerted efforts are required for the overall development of the state.
