Bangalore, March 22: City police have busted a fake marks card racket and have arrested four persons who were actively involved in it.
Jayanagar police have written to 10 universities with notice to check the bonafides of marks cards issued to students. Jayanagar police have seized 150 marks cards and the arrested have been identified as Dharmendra, Naresh, Dileep and Raghu.
All the four persons were involved in fake marks card racket in the last five years. But their luck ran out on Wednesday when the police team lead by inspector Manjunath seized marks cards and arrested them.
Notices have been slapped to 10 universities such as Mangalore University, CVR University – Jarkhand, Karnataka Open University, Jawaharlal Nehru University – Delhi, Kuvempu University, Janardhan University- Rajasthan, Geetam University – Vishakhapattanam, Thakur university – Madhyapradesh, CV Raman university – Chattisgarh and Mangalore technical science of institute.
These four accused laid a trap on students who were struggling to get a degree and those pursuing studies in distance education system. So far, about 150 marks cards have been issued. In this regard, 20 students have been summoned for interrogation and their statements have been sought. Those who have been given marks cards are from Chikkaballapur, Kolar and Bangalore rural areas. The students have confessed that they have coughed up Rs. 20,000 each to get marks cards and they were not aware of the genuineness.
The accused Naresh who is a software engineer had procured all the paraphernalia to create fake marks card, the police revealed.
