Govt to take up construction of Satellite Town Ring Road connecting Devanahalli to Mysuru: CM Bommai

Bengaluru. March 11.
The State government is set to take up construction of Satellite Town Ring Road(STRR) from Devanahalli going all along to connect Mysuru. Talks are on with the Union government which has sought some concessions for implementing the project, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said.

Participating at a discussion on Bangalore, Bommai said work on Peripheral Ring Road to ease the traffic density in Bengaluru would be taken up soon. It would extend from Hebbal to Mysuru Road. STRR would be constructed as a continued part of the Peripheral Ring Road to ease the traffic.

The State government is focussing on good roads, improving the underground drainage system, storm water drains and 12 high density traffic corridors. The proposed corridors would have a seamless signal system. We need to have separate road plan and traffic plan for the city, Bommai said and a Traffic Plan for Bengaluru is being formulated, he added.

Upgradation of Storm water Drains has been taken up at a cost of Rs.1500 cr to address the problem of flooding during the rainy season, he said.

A responsible civil society is the essence of Bengaluru. “We need a strong, vibrant civil society that can think about the problems and come out with solutions and participate in problem solving. The big question mark is ownership. Unless all citizens own the city, we can’t expect magic,” he said.
