Hijab row: 3 days holiday for varsities and colleges

Examinations will be held as scheduled

Bengaluru, Feb. 8:
With the Hijab issue going out of control the government seems to be playing cautious by declaring holiday for three days universities belonging to the department of higher education and colleges under the department of Collegiate and Technical Education (DCTE).

Holiday of 3 days starting from Wednesday (Jan 9), in view of the Hijab row, Dr.C.N.Ashwatha Narayana, Minister for Higher Educations, has announced on Tuesday.

However, the examinations scheduled on these dates will be held as scheduled, he has clarified.

The 3 day holiday starting from Feb 9 up to Feb 11 is applicable for government, aided, unaided degree colleges, diploma, and engineering colleges, Minister stated.

The government has taken this decision in order to ensure the maintenance of law and order in the state till the high court pronounces its verdict regarding the petition related to this. Either wearing Hijab or Saffron shawl is not permitted in classes of educational institutions. No one should venture to take law into their own hands. Ultimately, the verdict of the court should be honoured, Mr. Narayana has told in clear terms.
