Singing legend Lata didi no more

Singing legend, Nightingale of India Lata Mangeshkar breathed her last today, February 6 at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital after prolonged Corona infection.

She was admitted to hospital on January 8 after she tested positive for Covid-19. She was being treated in ICU. Although she showed signs of improvement recently, her health condition deteriorated subsequently.

She was 92. After the news of her demise broke, fans across the world mourned her loss. Though she is no longer with us, her legacy will live on. In her life span, Lata Mangeshkar recorded 50,000 songs in different languages.

The enitre country is mourning the loss of legendary singer popularly known as Lata didi.

The singing sensation was the recipient of several awards including Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award, Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, Dada Saheb Phalke Award, and multiple National Film Awards.

Born in Indore, Mangeshkar remained the voice of screen idols for generations. She began her career at the age of 13 in 1942 and had lent her voice for half a lakh songs in over 35 languages.

The mortal remains of Lata Mangeshkar will be brought to Shivaji Park for public darshan by 4 pm, says Mumbai police which has begun the barricading around the area.

Prime minister Narendra Modi will visot to pay his homage.
