Aam Aadmi Party is ready for any struggle to defend the rights and interest of slum dwellers, said AAP Karnataka President Prithvi Reddy on Wednesday.
Prithvi Reddy visited the slum board housing society in Bhubaneswari nagar and discussed with residents who are in fear of dislocation.
Speaking to the media persons later, he said, “Aam Aadmi Party has been in touch with the people here for the past six months. Earlier in the week, many leaders of the AAP had come to the place and worked to reassure the people. AAP’s legal unit has succeeded in getting an injunction from the court against forcible abolition.”
On the orders of the local legislators and ministers, the officials of the Slum Board have allotted the houses. This includes massive corruption and the distribution of houses to those who paid the most. The interests of the poor and middle class residents have been completely ignored. Those who have been living here for the last 30 years have been wandering the government offices for a peaceful and right full possession of the houses, he lamented.
Manjunath Swamy, president of the Aam Aadmi Party’s Bangalore legal unit, said, “The police are threatening the locals on charges of trespassing. They are saying they will be forced out if the house is not vacated. The court order was our first victory and we will continue our fight until they get a rightful documents from the Slum board.
Aam Aadmi Party leaders Sanchit Sehwani, Manjunatha Swamy, BT Naganna, Channappa Gowda, Suresh Rathod, Sitaram Gundappa, Sharad Khadri, Imran, Vijay and others were present.
