ICSI to introduce CS courses in state extensively: ICSI organises 3-day National Convention

Although Covid-19 has struck hard for over two years now, an average of 600 companies are registered across the country on a daily basis. As of now there are only 67,205 Company Secretaries functioning across the country, said the president of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), CS Nagendra D. Rao on Wednesday.

Announcing a 3-day national convention beginning tomorrow at the Palace Grounds he vouched for a plenty of opportunities for Company Secretaries the days to come. In this background, the ICSI is contemplating on introducing courses at SSLC (Class 10) or PU level (Class 11 and 12), which will enable students to opt this as a professional course in future,” he observed.

He indicated that there is a dearth of Company secretaries given the number of companies getting registered.

Mr Rao said that the CS course can be taken up after writing a national entrance test soon after one completes class 12 examinations (PU Exams) in the state. “At present more than 2.5 Lakhs students are on the roll of ICSI,” he said.

The ICSI was working hard to create more awareness about the existing courses provided by the ICSI. “In Karnataka, we are in talks with the Commissioner of Public Instruction, Karnataka State Secondary Education Examination Board (PU Board) and also with the Department of Collegiate Education in order to introduce various certificate courses designed and run by the ICSI,” he explained.

Mr Rao said that the three day event will be organised in a hybrid mode due to Covid restrictions enforced by the governments. “Of the three day event, the valedictory session on the last day will be held only online mode,” he said.

With the theme of ‘Good Governance: The Universal Dharma’, the apex  body of Company secretaries (ICSI) would deliberate on various issues related to good governances especially focussing on charity and CSR initiatives in its three day long 49th national convention, Mr Rao told reporters here.

The convention would also deliberate on ease doing business, skill development, entrepreneurship among other themes.

The event will be inaugurated by governor, Thaawarchand Ghelot, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and union minister for women and child welfare Smriti Zubin Irani.

On the three day convention, Mr Rao stated that the panel session on charity and CSR governance will be inaugurated by the Mysore scion, Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar.

State Bank of India’s Managing Director,  Swaminathan  Janakraman will also grace the occasion.
