Karnataka-Germany Fast-Tracks Employment Process For Healthcare Professionals Aiming To Work In Germany

Boost Nursing Careers with New German Language Exam Centre in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Nov 20: Dreams of nursing students and healthcare professionals aspiring to build a career in Germany moved a step closer to reality as the Karnataka Vocational Training and Skill Development Corporation (KVTSDC) signed an MoU on Thursday with the Deutsche Fachkräfteagentur für Gesundheits- und Pflegeberufe GmbH (DeFa) paving way for the launch of a new telc German Language Examination Centre in Bengaluru.

Strengthening Indo-German cooperation in the healthcare sector, the new German language examination centre was inaugurated at the Karnataka German Technical Training Institute (KGTTI), Peenya. To accelerate the process, KVTSDC has already begun shortlisting candidates primarily nurses who will undergo structured German language training to support their professional migration pathway to Germany.

“This programme will help healthcare and nursing professionals across Karnataka meet the linguistic standards essential for employment in Germany, where B2-level German proficiency is mandatory for registered nurses,” said Dr. Sharanaprakash R. Patil, Minister for Skill Development and Medical Education

DeFa, established by the German Federal Ministry of Health, plays a vital role in ensuring ethical, transparent and efficient recruitment of international healthcare workers. telc (The European Language Certificates) exams are aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), providing globally recognised certification for study, work and residence in Germany.

Bruno Carlesso, Director Global Business, telc, who signed the MoU on behalf of Germany, stated that the establishment of the KVTSDC–telc exam centre at KGTTI marks a major milestone in enabling accessible, high-quality language certification pathways for aspiring healthcare professionals from Karnataka and India.

The event was attended by German Deputy Consul General Annett Baessler, Anoop Achuthan Director India & South East Asia, DeFa, Shivakantamma Naik Chairperson, KVTSDC, R. Ragapriya and N.M. Nagaraja.

Artificial Intelligence Grid

In a separate session at the Bengaluru Tech Summit, Dr. Patil proposed the creation of an “AI Grid” aimed at mapping, documenting and training workforce segments in Artificial Intelligence.

Delivering the keynote address on the role of AI in the skill development ecosystem, the minister encouraged youth not to fear job displacement due to AI, but to embrace the future by learning new-age skills to remain competitive in the employment market. He further noted that the Department of Medical Education is exploring phased introduction of AI in healthcare delivery.

Dr. E.V. Ramana Reddy, Chairperson, Karnataka Skill Development Authority (KSDA), highlighted that for the state government, AI represents an Academia–Industry collaboration model that can help Karnataka develop and deploy innovative AI solutions.
