Governor Inaugurates “Shatabdi Bhavan” of Indian Red Cross Society, Dakshina Kannada District Branch

Mangaluru, July 26: Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, inaugurated the “Shatabdi Bhavan” of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Dakshina Kannada District Branch, in Mangaluru today.

Addressing the gathering, the Governor emphasized the evolving challenges faced by society, stating, “India is grappling with issues like climate change, urban health crises, mental stress, and social inequalities. In such a scenario, the Red Cross must expand its reach through innovation, digital tools, and deeper local engagement, beyond traditional services.”

Highlighting the enduring legacy of the Indian Red Cross Society, the Governor said, “For over a century, the IRCS has embodied compassion, service, and humanity. Its history is marked by selfless service and unwavering dedication, standing as a vital force during disasters, disease outbreaks, and humanitarian crises.”

He further remarked, “The Red Cross has only one religion — ‘Humanity’, and only one goal — ‘Welfare and happiness for all’. From rural villages to metropolitan cities, the Society continues its essential work in healthcare, emergency relief, blood donation, sanitation, and awareness campaigns. Youth participation, through Red Cross Youth and Junior Red Cross, is crucial to instilling values of discipline, service, and compassion in future generations.”

The Governor lauded the efforts of the Karnataka branch of IRCS, saying, “The State branch has shown exemplary work in disaster management, blood donation drives, first aid training, community health, and awareness initiatives. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, volunteers, and partner organizations who continue to serve selflessly, often with limited resources. They are true inspirations to society.”

Speaking about the new building, he added, “The ‘Shatabdi Bhavan’ is not just a structure but a pledge — a commitment to the next century of humanitarian service. It will serve as the administrative hub, further streamlining and strengthening the district’s programs. Let us all embrace the spirit of ‘Seva Parmo Dharma’ and transform this Bhavan into a true center of public service and social responsibility.”

The event was graced by Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker U.T. Khader, Member of Parliament Captain Brijesh Chowta, MLA D. Vedavyas Kamath, IRCS Karnataka Vice President Bhaskar Rao, and several other dignitaries and officials.
