Bengaluru, July 11: The Quantum Research Park at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has the potential to spearhead the growth of the quantum technology sector in India, said N.S. Boseraju, Minister for Minor Irrigation, Science and Technology. The Karnataka Government has sanctioned ₹48 crore for the park’s development and is committed to extending all necessary support to ensure its success.

The Minister visited the IISc campus on Thursday and engaged in detailed discussions with experts on formulating a comprehensive roadmap for the advancement of quantum technologies in the state and across the country.

Prof. Arindam Ghosh, Head of the Quantum Research Park, emphasized that the Park—established at one of the country’s premier science institutions—has all the credentials to lead India’s quantum mission. He highlighted that Bengaluru, with its strong ecosystem of academic institutions, R&D centres, and cutting-edge industries, is well-positioned to foster a “Quantum Advantage Driven Economy” by 2035. He recommended the formation of an international advisory committee to guide this vision.

Minister Boseraju reaffirmed the government’s commitment to positioning Karnataka as a national leader in the quantum sector. “Under the leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Siddaramaiah and Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister Shri D.K. Shivakumar, our government is focused on promoting quantum science and technology,” he said. As part of this vision, the state is hosting the country’s first-ever ‘Quantum India Bengaluru Conference’ on July 31 and August 1, aimed at establishing Bengaluru as India’s quantum capital.

The ₹48 crore grant is being utilized to equip the Quantum Research Park with world-class research infrastructure, including advanced laboratories, state-of-the-art instruments, and incubation facilities. The state government is prepared to extend further support as required for the growth of this institution. Minister Boseraju also assured that he would discuss further initiatives with the Chief Minister.

The visit was attended by Raichur MP Shri G. Kumar Naik, KSTePS Director Shri Sadashiva Prabhu, IISc Director Prof. G. Rangarajan, Prof. Akshaya Nayak, and senior officials from IISc and the Department of Science and Technology.
