Training Program for Frontline BSWML Workers
Bengaluru Express Bengaluru, July 5:
Additional Chief Secretary of the Urban Development Department and Chairman of BSWML Tushar Girinath, has instructed officials to organize health check-up camps for all garbage management workers under the limits of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike.
Addressing a meeting held today at the BSWML office, jointly organized by BBMP, BSWML, C40 Cities initiative, Sensing Local, and Saahas, he emphasized the importance of conducting health camps for garbage management workers to identify health issues and provide timely medical assistance.
He directed that monthly meetings should be held with them and supervisory officials to identify immediate challenges, facilitate communication, and collectively develop solutions.
In addition to strengthening the dry waste collection centers identified under the BBMP, efforts will be made to support workers at these centers in becoming entrepreneurs. Identity cards will also be updated and reissued.
He appreciated the initiative to organize training and dialogue sessions on climate action for frontline BSWML workers under the Bengaluru Climate Action and Resilience Plan (BCAP), calling it a positive step forward.
Training Across 5 Zones:
More than 600 BSWML frontline workers and officials from five zones — East, West, South, Bommanahalli, and Mahadevapura — have undergone three phases of training. Between March and June 2025, 75 of them participated in community dialogue sessions, sharing their concerns and jointly identifying possible solutions.
Objective of Frontline Worker Training:
Solid waste management is a key component of the Bengaluru Climate Action and Resilience Plan (BCAP). Accordingly, training sessions are being conducted at the zonal level for junior health inspectors, marshals, link workers, and staff working at dry waste collection centers. These sessions cover topics such as waste disposal methods, bulk waste handling, income generation from waste, safety protocols, and more.
Special Commissioner Suralkar Vikas Kishor, Preeti Gehlot, Zonal Commissioners Snehal, Ramesh, Digvijay Bodke, BSWML Chief Operating Officer Ramamani, Chief Engineers Lokesh and Basavaraj Kabade, along with marshals, link workers, and other officials, were present at the event.
