Bengaluru, June 21: Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the newly established Adichunchanagiri University and BGS Medical College and Hospital at the BGS MCH campus in Nagaruru, Bengaluru North Taluk, in the esteemed presence of Dr. Nirmalanandanatha Swamiji, President of Adichunchanagiri Mahasamsthana Math and Chancellor of the University, and Shri Madara Channayya Swamiji of Chitradurga Madara Channayya Gurupeetha.

Speaking on the occasion, Amit Shah highlighted the remarkable transformation in the country’s health sector over the past 11 years under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He stated that the Central Government has adopted a holistic and inclusive approach to public health, addressing challenges from early childhood through adulthood.

“When Shri Narendra Modi was Chief Minister of Gujarat, he deeply felt the burden of healthcare expenses on the poor. That concern is now a national mission. Under Ayushman Bharat, over 60 crore citizens are receiving free health coverage of ₹5 lakh annually. Affordable medicines are available at Jan Aushadhi Kendras, and programs like Mission Indradhanush are creating a healthier India,” Shah said.

The Minister added that India has made significant strides in medical infrastructure. The number of AIIMS institutions has risen from 7 to 23, medical colleges have increased from 387 to 780, undergraduate medical seats from 51,000 to 1.18 lakh, and postgraduate seats from 31,000 to 74,000.
Praising the legacy of Adichunchanagiri Mahasamsthana, Shah noted its 1,800-year-old heritage and acknowledged Dr. Nirmalanandanatha Swamiji for his unwavering commitment to service, education, health, spirituality, and social welfare. The Math’s contributions, he said, encompass nine pillars of public good—from free healthcare and education to environmental protection and social unity.

“This university is a shining example of how tradition and modernity can go hand-in-hand. The vision of Balagangadharnath Swamiji, who established hospitals, orphanages, and educational institutions over four decades, is being carried forward with renewed energy and relevance,” he said.
In his address, Dr. Nirmalanandanatha Swamiji expressed heartfelt gratitude, stating that the establishment of the university fulfills the lifelong dream of Balagangadharnatha Swamiji. He said that the sacrifice of earlier seers who lacked access to proper healthcare inspired the Math to set up health and medical education institutions.

“Amit Shah is a strong and visionary leader. Just as deep roots give strength to a tree to bear flowers and fruit, he is one of the strongest roots of our nation. India’s rich cultural and knowledge traditions must be preserved, and that is our collective responsibility,” said Swamiji.
Union Minister for Steel and Heavy Industries H.D. Kumaraswamy acknowledged the guidance of Amit Shah in addressing challenges in Karnataka’s development and praised the Math’s role in transforming the lives of lakhs of students across the state.

Karnataka Medical Education Minister Dr. Sharan Prakash Patil: reiterated the state government’s commitment to establishing government medical colleges and specialty hospitals in every district. He appreciated the contributions of religious institutions like Adichunchanagiri Math to social welfare.
Shri Madara Channayya Swamiji of Chitradurga Gurupeetha acknowledged the historic support of Adichunchanagiri Math and appealed to the Central Government to consider reservation for the Madiga community. He described the university as a major national contribution.
Swami Paramatmananda Saraswati of Arsha Vidya Mandir, Rajkot, drew parallels between Amit Shah and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, stating that Shah embodies leadership through vision and courage.

The event was also attended by Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna, Leader of Opposition R. Ashoka, Member of Parliament Dr. K. Sudhakar, MLAs S.R. Vishwanath and N. Srinivas, University Trustee Shri D. Devaraju, Vice-Chancellor Dr. M.A. Shankar, Registrar Dr. C.K. Subbaraya, Principal Dr. K.S. Gangadhar, and Hospital representatives, among others.
